Advance Principles of Infection Control for Paraprofessionals

Description
Preventing and controlling infections is a primary concern for health care workers. Learning infection control principles and common sense work habits is important to meet the goal of controlling infections. New medical devices and procedures add an additional challenge to applying good infection control habits. This course is designed to provide the paraprofessionals with a review of standard infection control practices and procedures as well as more advanced information on various commonly seen diseases.
Delivery

This is a self-paced course with optional knowledge check quizzes after each lesson. These non-graded quizzes allow you to check your understanding of the lesson objectives before proceeding to the next lesson. After the final lesson you will be required to take the final exam. You must score 70% or higher to pass the course and obtain a certificate of completion.

Objectives
  • Identify 3 steps to take to prevent the spread of infection
  • State the 2 types of actions associated with aseptic practice
  • Identify 2 illnesses that an employee may have that prevents them from working
  • Outline the action steps under Standard Precautions Guidelines
  • Describe steps to take to control the spread of infection in the home
  • Identify steps to take when caring for the patient with HIV/AIDS
  • Name steps to take when caring for the patient with Hepatitis
  • List steps to take when caring for the patient with Tuberculosis
  • Identify steps to take when caring for the patient with CMV
  • Define Employee Right to Know
  • Describe common-sense protection against bioterrorism

Intended Audience

This course is designed to meet the continuing education requirements of healthcare paraprofessionals, such as homehealth aide, nurses aide and personal care attendants.
